The Petzl Stop is an auto locking descender. The Petzl Stop allows hands free stops to be made while descending on a single rope. The Petzl Stop can also quickly be used to climb back up a rope with the addition of one handled ascender and a foot loop. To start ascending a rope with this device it does not need to be removed from the rope but... another usefull feature of the Stop is that the rope can be removed from the device without having to unclip the Stop from your harness. When caving etc ropes get particuarly dirty this is not good news for your descender as there will grit wearing away its camming parts. The Petzl Stop can be easily fixed at home as replacement bobins and lower handle assembly are always available.
