The ATC XP has two friction options. The extra friction gained is three times that of the smooth side when belaying with the controlling rope through the grooves. This device is excellent for use with thinner ropes, belaying heavier people, and for use on icy ropes. ATC XP works with ropes from 7.7 mm to 11 mm for all-season use.
